Effect of metallic nanoparticles on the creation of aggregates and on the optical characteristics of Rhodamine 6G

Abstract

In this work we study the effects of concentrations of the xanthene dye Rhodamine 6G (Rh-6G) and nanoparticles (NPs) of Au (gold) and Ag (silver) on the optical properties of Rh-6G. The studies were performed on three sets of samples: set Rn, consisting of aqueous solutions of Rh-6G with variation of its concentration, set AuRn, composed by fixed concentration of gold nanoparticles (NPsAu) inserted in an aqueous solution of Rh-6G, in which we vary the dye concentration and the hybrid combination of silver NPs and aqueous Rh-6G, with a concentration NPsAg fixed and varying the concentration of Rh-6G. For these studies we use conventional spectroscopy through of absorption and luminescence spectroscopic measurements. Through of the analysis of the set with only Rh-6G we conclude that the aggregate formation it is related to the concentration of Rhodamine 6G, as higher the concentration of Rh-6G, higher is the aggregates formation. When metallically nanoparticles are inserted in Rh-6G the effects of NPsAu and NPsAg on the optical properties of Rh-6G also present aggregate formation however when compared with the set Rh-6G we realize that the aggregate formation decrease. One can conclude that the behavior obtained to aqueous solutions of Rh-6G with NPsAu and NPsAg decrease the aggregate formation.
