the case of “Lua Vermelha”, poem, and music

Abstract

Through this paper, we seek to think about poetry and music in an interarts relationship. We try to think of the lyrics of the song “Lua Vermelha”, by Carlinhos Brown and Arnaldo Antunes, as a poetic literature thought of as “indiscipline”, and that seeks to stimulate a dialogue with music. Our contribution to this work is based on bibliographical research and a qualitative analysis of the lyrics of this song/poem. It is worth informing that here we make a reflective analysis of the lyrics of the song, using the Tropicalist thought of musical construction. Our results reveal the richness of the interarts dialogue between poetry and music in Brazil, and we understand “Red Moon” as a clear example of this. Our analysis revealed the use of the Tropicalist aesthetic mechanism in the construction of “Red Moon”, the strong romantic connection of the poem with the popular northeastern romances and with the sertanejo culture, bringing to the fore a founding Brazilianness of cultural aspects of our country from a text multimodal and full of varied meanings.
